On Oct. 27, NEFI and a coalition of industry allies sent a letter to Congressional leaders, laying out in clear terms the argument for liquid heating fuels and equipment to be included in the forthcoming reconciliation package. Congressional leaders are in deep negotiations on a reconciliation bill “framework,” which has provided a critical opportunity for the industry to make its priorities heard before a deal is reached.

NEFI has been working to form a coalition of industry allies that could amplify its message across the halls of Congress, helping to ensure that a collective voice is heard by key decision-makers. The letter was signed by NEFI along with the Advanced Biofuels Association (ABFA), National Association of Oil & Energy Service Professionals (OESP), National Biodiesel Board (NBB), and Oilheat Manufacturers Association (OMA).

The letter documents the positive steps our industry has taken to reduce emissions and offers specific policy recommendations that Congress can take to “help Main Street heating fuel businesses compete in the new energy economy and support American farmers and renewable fuel producers.”

The letter reminds lawmakers that investments in efficiency and sustainable fuels avoid costly home energy conversions. It concludes: “The double-punch of more efficient appliances and greater adoption of renewable liquid heating fuels will deliver immediate and cost-effective solutions that can help achieve the president’s goal of a 50% reduction to economywide greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.”
