The Pennsylvania Petroleum Association (PPA) has introduced the “Energy Choice PA” campaign to educate consumers about energy policy and regulation issues and to promote the benefits of an “all-of-the-above” approach to energy policy in the State.
Most States across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic are pursuing electrification policies, said the PPA, such as Clean Heat Standards and Cap & Invest Programs. Others have focused on regulatory changes, building code updates, or considering electronic vehicle (EV) mandates.
The PPA shared that Pennsylvania’s current administration is considering major reform to the energy production sector and has committed to a multistate alliance for the purpose of building decarbonization with a specific focus to quadruple heat pump installations by 2030. It is expected that other similar policies will come up for consideration in the future, noted the PPA.
“It will be increasingly important that consumers are educated about these issues,” the PPA said in a statement.
“We need our customers—and those who use other energy sources—to understand what electrification really means, to understand the economic impact of EV mandates and carbon taxes, and to recognize the strides that our industry has made in achieving broad carbon reduction,” the association added.
The “Energy Choice PA” campaign will be Pennsylvania’s vehicle for engaging with consumers about these critical issues, said PPA. The foundation of the campaign is EnergyChoicePA.com, developed by Warm Thoughts Communications and guided by the PPA Board of Directors.
The website will offer information about what energy choice really means and the impact it will have on Pennsylvanians; the limitations of electrification and increased costs to “electrify” everything; impacts on the transportation sector and the challenge of EVs; and impacts on the heating sectors and the significant upside of renewable fuels.
In the coming months, the PPA will also roll out a Dealer Toolkit of materials that fuel marketers can use to message customers, engage with them about these issues, drive them to the website, and eventually enlist them to reach out to legislators and voice their concerns about specific legislation and regulation.
The PPA plans to hold a State-wide webinar in January 2025. For information, contact Ted Harris at tharris@papetroleum.org or Rich Carrione of Warm Thoughts Communications at rcarrione@warmthoughts.com.
