South Carolina-based Florence-Darlington Technical College Educational Foundation has received 20k in pledges from two local HVAC companies, Johnstone Supply and Quality Service Co., to help create classes for the new HVAC Engineering & Technology Academy. The college recently presented scholarship certificates to 10 high school students who are enrolled in the new academy from the companies’ donations to the “HVAC Future Leaders Scholarship Fund.” According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job growth in the HVAC industry is projected to increase at 15% over the next eight years. Twelve more students are expected to be added to the academy in the Fall of 2019. The average annual wage in Florence for an HVAC career is around $50k and the median wage is expected to increase over the next few years.
