The Western Propane Gas Association (WPGA) has named Colin Sueyres as President & CEO of the 73-year-old organization, effective July 18.
“WPGA is excited to welcome Colin to our organization and looks forward to working with him on the future of the propane industry in California,” said WPGA’s Chair Alex Gallard. “Our member companies have been serving Californians for generations, providing clean, safe, reliable and affordable energy to power businesses and residents in our state. We believe our new leadership team will chart a path to delivering propane for generations to come.”
“I cannot wait to help our hard-working and essential members of the energy community in my new role as President and CEO,” said Sueyres. “Propane has been a key component of the economic growth of California for over a century. There is no path to continuing the smart development of this state without the vital resources this industry supplies – and the tens of thousands of jobs it directly supports from the North Coast to the Imperial Valley.”
Sueyres comes to WPGA with nearly two decades of management and public affairs experience. He most recently served as Director of Government Affairs for a large health care trade association, and has served as a senior staff member to several elected officials, including the Governor of California, members of the State Legislature, and a member of Congress. Sueyres also worked as a consultant to private sector clients and political campaigns.
He received a degree in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and currently serves on the Board of the Sacramento Children’s Home and as Chair of the Arden-Arcade Planning Advisory Council.
“It has been a pleasure to serve WPGA for the last seven years,” said Joy Alafia, the group’s outgoing President & CEO. “The work we have done to grow this industry and improve the lives of Californians has been very fulfilling. WPGA has emerged as a thought-leader on propane fuel and technology innovation. I have every confidence that Colin will leverage propane’s unique attributes to solve some of the state’s most pressing energy challenges. I wish Colin and the WPGA board future success.”
Founded in 1949, the WPGA is a trade and membership service organization that represents propane marketers throughout California. The Association’s core principles are education and training with the primary purpose to maintain high standards of practice within the industry.
